Welcome to Black Mountain
The charming town of Black Mountain rests deep in the Blue Ridge, just 15 miles East of Asheville. Boasting over 30 restaurants, 3 breweries, and 40 shops, Black Mountain is bustling with lively residents and visitors alike. This walkable, pet-friendly community is the home to The Black Mountain Center for the Arts (housed in the Old City Hall) and the Swannanoa Museum, paying homage to the long history of life in the Blue Ridge. This quaint village has recently been listed as “One of the 50 Safest Towns in North Carolina” and the “Best Small Town in Western North Carolina.”
Accessibility
Its close proximity to I-40 makes Black Mountain a perfect starting location no matter where you might be wanting to go. Shopping malls, Downtown Asheville and the Asheville Regional Airport are all just twenty minutes away. As for Charlotte, it can be reached in less than two hours. Other popular destinations like Maggie Valley, Waynesville and Sylva can all be accessed within just an hour or so.
History
People move to Black Mountain for a variety of different reasons. However, most aren't completely aware of the rich history that this city holds. Take one short walk along Cherry Street, State Street, Sutton or Broadway Avenue and you'll begin to understand why the National Register of Historic Places listed this entire three-block stretch of downtown as a Historic District. The old train depot on State Street is still there today, only as a museum. Other historical buildings in this area date back as far as the mid-1800s. Famous names including Albert Einstein and Buckminster Fuller have also spent a fair share of time in Black Mountain, North Carolina!
Art and Music
Music lovers will be able to find live music on stage just about every night of the week at White Horse Black Mountain, Town Pump Tavern or one of several local restaurants. The town also runs a summer concert series that features live music, food vendors and amazing views of the Seven Sisters mountains. On the main streets, you'll find shops and galleries offering the handiwork of local and regional artists. You can shop everything from ceramics and jewelry to apparel and furniture.
The stunning landscape and views that Black Mountain offers make this town an ideal place for outdoor festivals and events. Winter markets, 5K runs, the Taste of Black Mountain, Art in Bloom, and the annual LEAF festival are just a few of the different types of events happening around this city each year!
