Outdoor Activities

Woodfin has some of the best parks and walking trails in all of Buncombe County. Located right off of Merrimon Avenue is the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary, and right next door to that is the neighborhood of Lake View Park. The Bird Sanctuary, which is run by the Elisa Mitchell Audubon Society, is an 8-acre area of protected wetlands. Inside the Sanctuary, there are plentiful walking trails where you can go to see birds, beavers, turtles, butterflies, and other wildlife.

A short walk away is Lake View Park, which is a desirable neighborhood situated around Beaver Lake that is part of Asheville City's school district. Beaver Lake allows for kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding, and more. Around the lake are plentiful walking trails with different lengths that make them perfect for jogging, dog walking, or a quick family stroll. The lake and park are open to the public and maintained by wardens. Woodfin is also home to the Country Club of Asheville, which allows for ample golfing, an outdoor pool, and amazing views with a membership.

Woodfin is home to many tasty restaurants and bars, which is to be expected of an Asheville community since Asheville is such a foodie town. Moe's Original BBQ, Baked Pie Company, and La Carreta, which are some of Asheville's most loved eateries, all have branches in Woodfin. Some popular restaurants which are local to Woodfin include Nick's Grill, a perfect little diner for American and Greek cuisine, The Barrelhouse, an American pub with some awesome brews, and The Newbridge Cafe, a perfect breakfast and brunch cafe. River Arts District

Woodfin is right next door to Asheville's River Arts District. The River Arts District, or the RAD, is Asheville's hub for art galleries, outdoor activities in the French Broad River, and outdoor breweries. You'll find a variety of media, from basket weavers to bookbinders, to painters, to photographers, and more. The French Broad River runs right through the district, allowing for ample opportunities to get involved in rafting, tubing, or kayaking through companies such as Zen Tubing. If you'd rather sit by the river with a brew in hand, some of Asheville's most popular breweries are housed in the RAD, such as New Belgium and Wedge Brewing Company.
