Welcome to Boone
The first thing you think of when you think of Boone, North Carolina, is probably Appalachian State University. But did you know that there's so much more to this sweet mountain town? From the bustling King Street to the historical aspects and endless trails off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone is perfect for the person searching for a fun-loving scene.
Boone is known for its elevation of exactly 3,333 feet above sea level. It has the highest elevation of any town its size east of the Mississippi River! Its elevation makes for some pretty chilly winters with an above-average amount of snow, but it also means that summers are warm and hardly ever humid. Boone has a population of 18,200. The median age is 21, and this comes as no surprise since Appalachian State University lies within the city limits. It's most definitely considered a "college town." However, it's also a great place to raise a family; located in the Watauga County School District, Boone's schools have great ratings. The median home price is around $250,000. Outdoor Adventures
Boone has convenient proximity to multiple outdoor attractions in the High Country. First of all, it's located right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a national parkway known for its scenic beauty. It spans for 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina. Off of the Parkway, you'll find many hiking trails that lead to gorgeous mountain views, waterfalls, and more. If hiking isn't your thing, no worries! There's plenty of overlooks to park at as well. If you want to take the extra step, Grandfather Mountain is the perfect place to spend the day outdoors with friends and family. Visit their Mile High Swinging Bridge and see their animals, from sweet otters to black bears. Appalachian Ski Mountain is perfect for skiers and snowboarders, no matter your level of experience.
Down the road in Blowing Rock are more hiking trails (including the famous Blowing Rock cliff) and Tweetsie Railroad, a wild-west themed park with petting zoos and festival rides, and food. But perhaps one of the most well-known outdoor attractions in Boone is Horn in the West, a renowned seasonal outdoor drama which tells the story of Daniel Boone in the High Country during the American Revolution. Whether you're young, old, with or without kids, there will always be something to keep you entertained in Boone.
Out on the Town
Boone has plenty of spaces to enjoy a night out on the town. If you're hoping to enjoy both history and good food, visit the Dan'l Boone Inn, which is one of the town's oldest buildings. King Street and beyond is hopping with restaurants, bars, and activities for you and your family. Enjoy bites from some popular restaurants such as Our Daily Bread, Vidalia Macado's, Mellow Mushroom, or Lost Province Brewing Co. Some of the most hopping bars in the area include River Street Ale House, Boone Saloon, The TAPP Room, and The Local. And, of course, there's shopping! King Street and beyond is packed with shops, many of which are local. Mast General Store has a location on King Street. Some of the most popular local stops are Dancing Moon Earthway Bookstore, Anna Banana's Consignment Shop, Lililiu on King, Ram's Rack Thrift Shop, and Appalachian Tees. Art and Music
Boone is well known for its art scene. Appalachian State University has a great Art program, which is one of many reasons that artists flock to Boone and bless the streets with their craft. To see some amazing local art, you can visit the Turchin Center For Visual Arts, the Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, the Common Good Co., Doe Ridge Pottery, Hands Gallery, The Jones House, and so many more.
Boone hosts many concerts throughout the year. The Jones House hosts weekly jam sessions, as well as concerts throughout the year. They even host a Summer Outdoor Concert Series. Ransom Pub + Event Venue is both a bar and an intimate concert venue. Some other intimate venues include The Down Home, Toby K's Hideaway, Wayneo's Silver Bullet, Legends, and Harvest House Performing Arts Venue. Finally, if you want to see some of your favorite artists with thousands of other people, they'll usually be performing at Holmes Convocation Center at Appalachian State University.
