Asheville, North Carolina

Welcome to Asheville

Many different factors make Asheville one of the top 100 best places to live in America. On the map, you'll find it located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. At an elevation of just over 2,000 feet, Asheville sits between the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. This artsy city is bursting with independently owned restaurants, farmers markets, and breweries. The median household income is $44,000 per year and the median home value sits around $281,000. Several respected colleges call Asheville home, including UNC Asheville, Western Carolina University, Warren Wilson College, and Montreat College.

Thriving Music & Art Scene

Thrillist has ranked Asheville in its list of America's Top 10 Greatest Music Cities. Many acclaimed music artists have played in Asheville music venues like the infamous Orange Peel. Ashevillians take music very seriously (for example, a celebration is held each year for the Asheville resident Bob Moog, the man who invented the Moog synthesizer), but music isn't the only creative outlet available to local artists.

Asheville is known for incredible street art in just about every corner of the city and is home to the River Arts District: a part of town filled with shops for local artisans and others with a creative mind. Asheville residents also love street performers; Pritchard Park is a great spot to enjoy some of the best local artists and performers.

Blue Ridge Parkway

It would be a challenge to find a more scenic drive anywhere else in North America! The Blue Ridge Parkway winds a stunning 469 miles through the Southern Appalachian mountains and offers an experience like no other. Whether you're into bird watching, hiking or camping, there's something for just about everyone on this stretch of road. In fact, there are so many different activities happening along the Blue Ridge Parkway that it has its very own website (plus another maintained by the National Park Service).

Beer City, USA

Asheville residents love beer! The city is actually home to more breweries per capita than any other around the United States. That's precisely why it got the nickname "Beer City USA" back in 2009. If you're also a beer fan, you'll enjoy the creative food choices this town has to offer. Have you ever had a beer glazed donut or some beer ice cream? Head to Asheville to tempt your taste buds!

Beautiful Weather All Year

Being located in the mountains means Asheville residents get to enjoy four unique seasons each and every year. Average summer temperature highs sit at a comfortable 80 to 85 degrees with lows in the 60s. Due to its higher elevation, summers in the city are often cooler than other Eastern cities in North Carolina. Once fall comes around, you'll begin to see the mountains explode with stunning color. Asheville's varied elevation (along with lots of biodiversity) make for one of the longest fall foliage seasons in the U.S.
